BIOGRAPHY OF EMPRESS ROBERTHA

EMPRESS ROBERTHA born SONYA ROBERTHA DOWNER" the last of 6 children echoed her arrival on the island of wood and water on the 20th of November, 1974 at the VICTORIA JUBILEE HOSPITAL.

The musical journey of SONYA ROBERTHA DOWNER a.k.a EMPRESS ROBERTHA began at the tender age of 4 - Empress Robertha naptime would begin with crying which later turned into a childish lullaby 'NARROW MAN OH, SINCO KASAE," since then her passion for music has been growing, transforming and molding a distinctive musical character came into existence.

1989, Her musical journey began at the OLD HARBOUR HIGH SCHOOL, where she was a student, ROBERTHA sang at school concerts and other school functions. At this tender age she had a TRACEY CHAPMAN vocal sound and performed tracks from the ALBUM 'FAST CAR", which were warmly received and appreciated. She became popular in the Old Harbour vicinity and was branded "TRACEY CHAPMAN". She was later invited by SASSA from Glendon Court Playhouse to perform at a dance session.

1991 – She recorded her first single entitled "CRUSH" on the studio one Doo's label under the name "SCHOOLGIRL", and distribution was done by Sonic Sounds.

1992 – EMPRESS ROBERTHA placed 2nd in the Tastee Talent Semi-Final Contest and 3rd in the Grand Finale.

1993 - Growing graciously from adolescence to adulthood, EMPRESS ROBERTHA now recognizes the importance of music and how much it impacted on her life, made contact with 2 very important persons, Mesdames, Martin and Patrick who also made it possible for her to perform at the annual stage showing of "BORDER CLASH", It was at this show that, she was approached by KING JAMMY'S who personally invited her to his camp, where she met artiste, such as, BOUNTY KILLER, ELEPHANT MAN, QUENCH AID and a host of others. During this period she releases a cover single entitled "MENTION" on SIMONE INTERNATIONAL LABEL from out of NEW JERSEY.

2003 – A finalist in the Irie FM Big Break Competition.

The course of accomplishments continued for her, she went on tour, did dubs for sound systems who were engaged in sound clashes. Did studio harmony and back up vocals on stage. Spent over a year amongst Luciano in the Jahmessenjah Camp and performed alongside Luciano on the show Black History 1 &2. Did recording for some of the veterans in the business such as Gregory Issacs, Hansel Collins, Mickey Bennett, Bunny General, Macka Diamond, Turbulance, TOK, Hitlist and Platinum records. She had cable interviews on the program "JUST FOR STARS" performed on shows.

2004 – She toured with Mickey General and Milton Blake as an opening act and back up vocalist.

After such a journey it is no wonder that she would find herself at CONSCIOUS VIBES PROMOTIONS LIMITED where the objectives are to educate, develop, uplift and empower people through conscious messages from clean powerful lyrics and positive rythmns. With her talent and the vibrant experienced and professional team at CONSCIOUS VIBES PROMOTIONS LIMITED and the current climate in the music industry with a strong demand for conscious female artiste – the sky is the limit.

2004 – SONYA ROBERTHA changes her name to EMPRESS ROBERTHA when she did the single – "WIPE THOSE TEARS" for Mikey Bennette on the EMG Label when a conflict of interest arisen. A few suggestions were made, but EMPRESS ROBETHA was my choice.
